Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2012-13 Dissemination Seminar

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Minister for Population Welfare Punjab, was the Chief Guest at the dissemination ceremony of the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2013-14 held in the Provincial Capital. The ceremony was well attended and represented by government and private sector stakeholders, research and training institutes, academia, media, donors and international organisations. Some of the major findings given in the report are:
Total Fertility Rate: 3.8
Total Wanted Fertility Rate: 2.8
Contraceptive {Prevelence Rate (all methods): 40.7
Contraceptive Prevelence Rate (modern methods only): 29.0
Unmet Need for Family Planning: 17.7
Unmet Need for Spacing: 7.4
Unmet Need for Limiting: 10.3
Observance of World Population Day

The Population Welfare Department Punjab will be celebrating World Population Day to increase people’s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, maternal health, gender equality, etc. Well arranged activities ranging from awareness walks for people from all walks of life, media (radio, television and press) campaigns, seminar discussions, educational information sessions, speech and essay competitions, display of banners and streamers, free medical camps, etc. are being planned throughout Punjab.
Inauguration and Launching of PWD Web Site

Mrs. Saleema Hashmi, Minister for Population Welfare will be inaugurating and launching the Population Welfare Department website in an official ceremony at 10.00 am. The function will be attended by senior officers from the department, Joint Director PITB, Provincial Co-ordinator UNFPA, and media personnel. This historic event in the history of the department is expected to be a leap towards improving awareness and knowledge in the general public regarding family planning methods, reproductive health, service delivery availability and its provision in Punjab by the department. Technical consultation, by a panel of senior doctors, on family planning and reproductive health is freely available through e-mail link on the website. The systematic and comprehensive menu of the website is expected to introduce the department and its efforts on advocating family planning and reproductive health through easily accessible information to the world.

Orientation on revised and updated Manual on Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation

District Population Welfare Officers of the Population Welfare Department Punjab will attend orientation sessions on the revised and updated Manual on Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation, to equip them better to utilize the manual its optimal, and to deliver step down trainings to the concerned officers/ officials in their districts.
